Hand Therapists
ITS Hand Therapists provide hand therapy for those who have reduced hand function due to injury, illness or after surgery.
Hand therapy is based on a thorough understanding of the anatomy, physiology and function of the hand. The ITS Hand Therapist will carry out a detailed assessment of the client’s hand and identify with the client their functional goals and an appropriate treatment plan to meet these aims.
The content of hand therapy will vary according to the individual’s needs. Qualified ITS Hand Therapists will utilise techniques including:
- Joint mobilisation
- Strengthening exercises
- Home exercise programmes
- Static strengthening
- Desensitisation
- Scar management
- Splinting
- Pressure garments
- Wound care
- Education
- Joint protection techniques
- Adaptive equipment
